When the city announced last spring that work would begin on the Lawrence and Rhea Rd. realignment project in April, the first concern of many motorists was whether they really could get it open before the busy Christmas shopping season.
City officials said it could be done, and they were right.
They finished with time to spare, and under budget.
Now the project is officially complete.
Russell Schreiber, public works director for the City of Wichita Falls, says, "We wanted to make sure we got it finished before Black Friday.  Obviously that's a large shopping center for after Thanksgiving and for Christmas, and that was one of our major concerns was to make sure we were out of the way before the shopping season rolled around."
City traffic workers just need to put up a couple more traffic signs as the icing on the cake of the project.
And one other bit of business: selling the 25-thousand square foot piece of land left behind when Lawrence Rd. was moved east.
It will be sold to the highest bidder.
