Council Approves Changes to Historic Guidelines

Historic property owners who want to make changes to their buildings will now have clear guidelines to follow.
    City councilors approved an updated version of the historic preservation guidelines.
    The goal is to preserve historic buildings, while still giving owners a chance to make renovations.
     The guidelines hadn't been updated since 2003 ... and city council had identified revisions as a priority.

"It was extremely important that the homeowner would be able to look at these guidelines & know exactly what they needed to do so when they need to fill out their paperwork and submit requests to us, they would have everything they needed so they would not have to come back to us a second and third time."

    Wichita Falls hired consultants to work with the Landmark Commission on the revisions.
    The study and revisions cost about 11- thousand dollars total ... the Texas Historical Commission and the U.S. Department of the Interior paid for half the costs.
