Councilor At-Large Candidate Profile: Brendan Bell

WICHITA FALLS - City councilor at-large candidate Brendan Bell is a Wichita Falls native.

"Born and raised here in Wichita Falls, graduated from Old High in '99 and then went to UT in Austin," Bell said.

Now he's back home working for Domain Real Estate, leading the Schaff and Clark commercial team.

"With the recent push with downtown, there's been a lot of properties that I worked on here," Bell said. "Actually in the last two months, I've sold four buildings downtown."

Bell says one of his visions is to bring even more momentum downtown.

"I think it starts with residents and then we will get more small businesses and restaurants and then potentially office space for Big Blue," Bell said. "I'm talking to national tenants all the time saying 'hey, you guys need to get to Wichita Falls.'"

For that reason, Bell says he supports the idea of the convention center hotel for economic growth.

"For a fiscally responsible way to make the hotel work, I'm absolutely for it," Bell said.

He says in order to remain competitive for events to come to town, the city needs a place for visitors to stay.

"If you look at a place like Fort Worth and you go to a convention there. You stay in a hotel. you go across the street to your convention," Bell said. "You leave for lunch and then at night, you go maybe see a show or eat dinner in the area and then you go back to your hotel."

Bell also says he's someone who is deeply invested in Wichita Falls.

"You know, my wife might say that I do too many things but I am involved in a lot," Bell said. "So I'm on the executive board of the Arts Council and lead worship at our church, One Life Community Church, do real estate, meet with leaders in our community and so I'm around."

He says as councilor at-large being approachable to everyone is important. "Just being able to be in the community and not sitting in an office all day long, I think, really benefits me."

Above all, Bell says he wants to make sure the citizens love where they live and get everyone excited about spending time in Wichita Falls.

"I love my city," Bell said. "I love this town."

Bell is the youngest candidate running for councilor at-large. Candidates Charles Barr, Penny Miller and Bobby Whiteley are running for the councilor at-large position. For more information about each of the four candidates, click here.
