Councilors approve Eagle Railcar Services expansion among other 4A funds

WICHITA FALLS - A Wichita Falls railway car servicing company plans to put more people to work as it expands thanks to an incentive from city sales tax dollars.

This is the third 4A tax incentive package councilors have given Eagle Railcar Services since the company rolled into town back in 2014.

Officials say the company has already met and even exceeded the terms of those agreements. Now the company has plans to create even more jobs here at the manufacturing company.

"Fast forward several years later in the last two years, we have really went through a rapid growth in our operation," ERCS plant manager James Bullard said.

On Tuesday, Wichita Falls city councilors approved $500 thousand dollars in 4A funds. Bullard says will be a huge help for their $1.6 million dollar project.

"We're going to be adding some storage tracks as well as a few other tracks that will help us with our switching operation," Bullard said. "We're also going to be adding two overhead cranes in our mechanical shop."

The company currently employs 124 people and as part of the incentive package, Eagle Railcar signed off to create and retain 32 more positions.

"Manufacturing jobs are still out there. They are and we're pursuing a lot of projects and we're working with almost all of our local manufacturers on trying to find work force for them," Chamber of Commerce CEO Henry Florsheim says ERCS is another example of what reinvesting sales tax funds can do for a city.

"The reason the 4A sales tax exist in the first place is to do economic development," Florsheim said. "It's to encourage companies to create new opportunities here for our citizens for our citizens to work."

Florsheim said it's still possible to reel in even more manufacturing jobs as long as the city has people ready to go to work.

"The key right now is how do we grow the talent pool because unemployment is three percent and if people really want to be working in a job like this, they're going to be able to find one somewhere," Florsheim said.

Soon many could find employment here as Eagle Railcar looks to stay right on track to hit even more incentive milestones in the future.
