CPS: Child Test Positive for Cocaine and Meth, Man Charged

A Wichita Falls man is in the Wichita County Jail, after authorities say a 7-year-old boy, who was in his care, tested positive for cocaine and methamphetamine.

Michael Dewayne Barnes is jailed on a $25,000 bond and is charged with abandoning or endangering a child.

Child Protective Services say they received a report he was exposing a young boy to drugs.

A CPS investigator says she interviewed the alleged victim who told her that Barnes would lay out a mirror on the coffee table and spread white powder on it and then he would cut a straw in half. The investigator says he then showed her how Barnes would suck the white stuff up his nose.

CPS investigators say they removed the child from Barnes care on February 16th and that same day they sent a hair sample to a lab for testing.

Authorities say it showed the 7-year-old had cocaine and meth in his system.
