Construction of the new Young County Law Enforcement Center five years ago left the old jail sitting vacant and be used for storage by several county departments.
However, in October, county commissioners voted to demolish the structure, despite the county judge's desire to make minimal repairs and keep it for storage and as a storm shelter.
Officials say the cost to demolish and remove asbestos from the 12,000 square foot building is more than $40,000.
