Downtown Businesses Boom Amid Lower St. Patty's Day Fest Numbers

Even with low attendance at this year's St. Patrick's Day Festival, some nearby businesses still saw an increase in sales.

Attendance was down by 1,000 people from last year even with a variety of food trucks and Wichita Falls' own Bowling For Soup headlining the show.

"We were expecting close to 6,000 and got about half of what we were expecting. I think a lot of people held out. Just trying to figure out what the weather's going to be like and that kind of affected it," said Jeanette Charos with Downtown Proud.

Meanwhile, business at 8th Street Coffee House was booming that day.

"There's a lot of people in the community that don't make their way downtown very often. When events happen like that it does draw people to downtown and increases all the businesses in this area," Delcour said.

Twenty 11 Bistro had a booth at the St. Patty's Festival and had their doors open all day.

Owner Demrick Davis says the bad weather encouraged some customers to head inside.

"It actually went better than it did last year," said Davis.

For next year, he hopes organizers have better luck when it comes to the weather.

"The only thing I would say is have good weather, with good weather, we'd have a better turnout. More families could come out."

Downtown Proud was hoping to bring in around $30,000 from the event here in the streets and they raised $24,000

Charos says for the upcoming 10th Annual Cajun Festival on May 13th, they will put up a rain tent in cause of bad weather.

The event will feature more than 5,000 pounds of crawfish, 3 live bands, and carnival rides.

Tickets for that event will go on sale starting on April 11th.

Downtown Proud says this year, because it coincides with MSU's graduation, all graduates will get in for free.
