WICHITA FALLS - Saturday was the season opener for the Downtown Wichita Falls Farmers Market on 8th and Ohio.
Now that the market is fully enclosed it's expanding into the Fall and Winter and Saturday it hosted the most vendors the market has seen in 10 years.
For many of the vendors, the 2016 season isn't their first, but it is for one embroidery duo.
"We've been well pleased with it," Becky Dalrymple, owner of Becky's Rainbow Gifts. "We're excited and we've had a good day so far."
But for Dalrymple, preparing for today meant months of stitching around her full time job.
"We're stitching towels anytime we have free time," said Dalrymple. "We keep our machines going pretty fast."
Her cousin, Jackie Polster, lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and said the business is a way to bring the cousins together.
"Of course we're a hundred miles a part but we still confer which one's doing what and everything," said Polster. "But we enjoy doing them."
One thing they do share with the other vendors is helping the community,
Like Morath Orchard, who's been selling at the downtown farmers market for 10 years.
"You're getting a really fresh product and it's locally grown," said Becky Morath. "This is the most vendors we've ever had come, but we've also had a great turn out with customers, too."
And for many of the vendors they see it as a win-win, for the farmers and the community.
"Well it helps everybody eat good and helps put money in the farmers pockets," said Ernest Seigler, with Seigler Farms. "So it helps, both sides."
And with Saturday's huge turnout, you can hope to see most of these vendors throughout the summer and into next year.
The Downtown Wichita Falls Farmer's Market will be open Tuesday's, Thursdays, and Saturdays from May 7th to October 10th from 7:30am-1:30pm (or until sold out). It will also be open a Saturday on both November and December.
