Last Monday afternoon the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Clay County Rescue and DPS were all called to the scene of a head on collision on the Spur 510 ramp over Highway 287 just outside Henrietta.
Deputies say a Lexus didn't yield and pulled out in front of a black pickup and the two collided.
They say the passenger in the Lexus, 67-year-old Tam Luu of Oregon was taken by medical helicopter to United Regional and died from her injuries the following day.
One week after a woman died at Spur 510 and 287 outside Henrietta, DPS along with the Clay County Sheriff's deputies were back at the scene, doing a more thorough investigation to determine what happened. Bringing a special system using lasers to make accurate measurements.
DPS Sergeant Dan Buesing said "Well it's just basic protocol. Anytime there's a fatality or possibility of a fatality, our troopers will show up, the guys that are trained to run the total station and they will map out that scene for whatever agency has asked us to come help,"
DPS Sergeant Dan Buesing says mapping it all out allows them to know exactly how the crash happened.
"It gives us a very detailed description of how fast the vehicles were going, the skid marks, help in determining how the crash came together, once you put that together along with eye witness statements and maybe subjects that were in the vehicles, you can really determine how the crash occurred."
He said these follow up investigations like this have been common for many years but the idea of a laser based station is only about ten years old.
He said having a station allows troopers to work faster and safer.
And Sgt. Buesing hopes it will make this stretch of roadway safer for all who travel here in the future.
