Family members say 15 year-old Tyler James Patton and his mother's boyfriend were cutting down trees for a family friend near Possum Kingdom Lake on Friday.
They say when the two were finished and back at their hotel for the night, Tyler asked if he could go for a walk near the lake.
Ferguson says the next morning Tyler was not back at the hotel.
The police were called and the family was informed early Saturday that there was a report of a drowning victim around 8:15pm the night before.
Saturday morning Brazos River Authority started searching the lake for the reported victim and around 10 a.m. Tyler's body was found.
Family and friends say as they mourn this loss they want people to remember who Tyler was.
"He had a big heart, he had the best heart. And he wouldn't have had anybody trade places with him. He would have done it for anybody," Tyler's sister Taylor Ferguson says.
Tyler was a junior ROTC cadet and one of five children.
He was a student at Mansfield Legacy.
Brazos River Authority is still investigating the drowning.
