Drunk Driver Hits Sheriff's Vehicle on Grass Fire Scene

- Now while authorities were out on scene monitoring that fire they say an intoxicated driver rammed her vehicle into Wichita County Sheriff David Duke's patrol SUV.

Duke tells us that officials were opening up FM 171 when they got a call about a possibly drunk driver who was headed southbound Driving from bar ditch to bar ditch.

When marked county patrol units approached he says the woman turned her vehicle around.

Eventually duke parked his vehicle near where the suspect vehicle.

He says the female driver tried to jump out of her vehicle but didn't put it in park, so her vehicle slammed into his SUV.

Duke says that was actually a good thing.

"Because there was a small child in a car seat behind the driver, which we couldn't see in the black tinted windows.  Now [my] Vehicle, had it not been there, [the suspect's] Vehicle would have gone down to this valley, this little ditch over here, and it probably would have rolled over,” says Sheriff Duke.

He says the woman smelled of alcohol and authorities found pills in her vehicle, too.

Duke says that woman faces charges of DWI and endangering a child.

Thankfully, he says the child was not injured.
