Ricardo Cantu was awarded Outstanding Civilian Organization of the Year by the Texas Air Force Association. The president of the local chapter presented him the award during a special dinner of about 80 people at the restaurant.
The organization has 12 chapters across Texas and Cantu won the honor. The president of the organization's local chapter says he received the award because of support to military personnel as well as his giving heart.
Almost daily he gives free meals to several military personnel who come into the restaurant. And Cantu says the award means a great deal.
"As a military soldier, I've received many, many awards but for me, I'm gonna treasure this one on top of the list of all the awards that I've received. It's a tremendous honor to be recognized by the state of Texas," says Ricardo Cantu.
Cantu says supporting the military is near and dear to his heart because he served in the Army for 22 years. He says he worked in food service before and after retiring as a chief warrant officer.
As for his award, Cantu plans to display it for all patrons to see.
