Investigators identified the victim as Dorothy Hamilton. Officers were called to Hamilton's home in the 1400 block of E. First Street around 4:46 p.m. on Monday.
When they arrived, officers found the woman's body had been mauled by dogs that lived in the home. Eight dogs in total were found on the property. Those dogs, described as pit bulls by police, were seized by authorities. Kaufman police described the dogs as being very aggressive. Police also said that investigation showed the dogs broke through a bedroom door to get to the victim.
Kaufman police said it is unclear whether Hamilton was mauled to death by the dogs, or if her body was mauled following another cause of death. Investigators are classifying the incident as an unexplained cause of death pending the autopsy results from the medical examiner.
