ERCOT Urging Residents to Conserve Electricity

Texas remains under a power watch with residents asked to conserve electricity during this cold snap.

The Electric Reliability Council, or ERCOT, earlier issued an emergency alert Monday morning, warning rolling power outages were possible. They later cancelled it.
ERCOT instituted power reductions with industrial users who have contracted to reduce consumption in emergency situations.

Electricity demand peaked at 8 a.m. at about 55,500 megawatts. At 3 pm, it had declined to about 49,000 megawatts.

ERCOT is asking residents to keep thermostats as low as is comfortable -- and no higher than 68 degrees. They ask you turn off or unplug non-essential lights and appliances, and avoid running large appliances during peak demand hours.
