Construction crews will be installing more bridge decks on the new Windthorst Bridge in Wichita Falls tomorrow January 8, 2013. Traffic will be down to one lane through the work zone. Construction will start after morning rush and continue until approximately 5pm.
Motorist should expect slower than normal travel times through the work zone.
Only one detour will be put up for Northbound US 281 travelers wanting to go Southbound on US 287 (also known as Eastbound US 82). The interchange ramp for this movement will be closed during the work. A signed detour will take drivers off at Jacksboro Highway instead, use the Texas Turnaround art Jacksboro Hwy. and immediately reenter SB US 287/ EB US 82.
The construction is part of a $2.7 million dollar project to build a new 84' bridge for Windthorst road. The new structure will have two 14' wide lanes with two 11' shoulders, sidewalks, and one Texas turnaround. Being built in phases, once half the new bridge is open to traffic the old structure will be demolished. Crews will then start on the second half of the new bridge.
Construction started in September and should be finished by Summer 2013.
