Agriculture experts met today to assess damage caused to wheat crops by Texoma's roller coaster weather.
Wheat is the predominate crop in Texoma and experts say that crop has taken numerous blows from the weather.
Texas AgriLife Extension officials held meetings in Iowa Park, Archer City, Vernon, Quanah and Childress today and examined wheat samples to see how the plants are standing up to several bouts of freezing temperatures last month, as well as recent rains.
And officials say this is how they would rate this year's wheat crop.
"I would say at best we're probably looking at an average crop and from there, depending on individual field situation, it could be a lot downhill," says Fred Hall, Wichita County extension agent.
According to Fred Hall, the farther they traveled west from Wichita Fall the more damage they say wheat crops are suffering from lack of rain, as well as damage from strong winds, and recent hail storms.
