Family Reactions To Charles Johnson's Sentencing

Today family members of Wichita Falls gun shop owner Gary Barlow took the stand with some powerful words for Charles Johnson.

Police say Barlow was shot five times in his gun shop, he had opened just five months before that day in November of 2015.

"We never expected that in five short months that my dad would have to fight for his life behind the very counter that he built with his hands. It really is what nightmares are made of." Ashley Whitfield, Gary Barlow's daughter

"In no way can I comprehend nor do I accept the lack of value and disregard for the life of my husband that you had on that day in November. "Karen Barlow -- wife of Gary Barlow

When you and Rodney Robinson came into our gun store and by your actions and your choices made on that day, the armed robbery nearly made me a widow at the age of 58 years old.

Gary Barlow is a survivor-- he's beaten cancer twice.

However on Thursday, November 19, 2015, after being shot five times and one of those shots doing the major internal damage he was close to death yet again. This time it wasn't cancer that tried to take his life, but it was two men that wanted something that was not theirs and they wanted it bad enough to kill my innocent father." Ashley Whitfield -- Gary Barlow's daughter

Barlow's daughter Ashley Whitfield says Johnson has shown very little remorse for those actions. Prosecutor Dobie Kosub says he feels like justice was served for the man he says was the instigator behind the robbery.

"I know that the family is pleased. If they're pleased, I'm pleased. I am ecstatic that a group of Wichita County citizens came together and was able to deliver justice for the Barlow family after Mr. Barlow had to endure himself as well as his family to support him and nurse him back to health because he was shot so many times." Dobie Kosub- prosecutor

Whitfield says although her father has recovered-- this incident left some scars that will never heal-- like those of her young son.

"He always talked about working at the gun shop with his grandpop for his first job, but not even to this day, he's afraid and still on edge every time we go see his grandpa. That is how deep this trauma has resonated with my son." Ashley Whitfield- Gary Barlow's daughter

Even still Whitfield asked Johnson to look her in the eyes-- while asking for the family's forgiveness.

"No matter what you have done and the poor choices you have made so far in life. No matter where you end up spending your days and nights, there is forgiveness. There are restorations and there are peace and new life that you can have."  Ashley Whitfield -- Gary Barlow's daughter

Johnson was also shot during the exchange of gunfire between Barlow and co- defendant, Rodney Robinson.

Following the verdict, Kosub said there is no definite date set for Robinson's trial. Johnson, who is  24, could get out in about 18- years.... with credit for good behavior and time served.
