Officials say on Sunday a fox made contact with a dog through a chain link fence at a home in southeast Wichita Falls.
And Tuesday afternoon, officials say a rabies test on the fox came back positive.
Animal control officials say most positive rabies cases in the city come from skunks but this latest case in a fox raises concerns.
"We have to make sure people understand that the foxes and coyotes are bigger and they move faster so there's more potential for exposure there," says Steve Dodge, animal control supervisor.
Since the dog was not up to date on its rabies shot and could have come in contact with saliva of the rabid fox, officials say that dog is in quarantine and undergoing a series of rabies vaccinations.
