Fireworks Injure Officer, Multiple Arrests

Around 11:30 Wednesday night, Wichita Falls Police responded to a large disturbance in the 400 block of bailey avenue after multiple calls to the area. When officers arrived, officials say they were surrounded by people shooting passing cars, including emergency vehicles, with fireworks.

First responders were on scene after reports a child had been hit by a firework. Police say they were surrounded by people in the area and were forced to retreat.

Police used riot gear to protect themselves as they approached the people shooting fireworks. 19 Wichita Falls Police Officers and 8 Wichita County Sheriff's Deputies ultimately responded to the scene.

Officials say a juvenile female shot at least two exploding fireworks above officers heads, and a third passed by a shield exploding near an officer's face. Police say the girl ran and tried to hide from officer,s but she was found hiding under a shrub and taken to the juvenile detention center. She faces charges of aggravated assault possession of marijuana and evading arrest.

The officer was taken to the emergency room for pain pressure and ringing in his ear as well as skin irritation from the explosive's fire residue. He was treated and released.

Police say an A.M.R. employee was also struck with a firework.

Authorities were on scene for several hours, and  a 17-year-old woman was arrested for disorderly conduct after screaming obscenities at the crowd and police.

18-year-old Domanic Trasher was also arrested for failure to identify. Officials say he gave officers on the scene a fake name.
