WICHITA FALLS - As part of The Healthy Kids Running Series designed to get kids outside and active, Texoman kids were racing around Sikes Lake Sunday afternoon.
According to Community Coordinator for the Healthy Kids Running Series Tammy Roe, the non-profit youth running program is a way to show kids that exercise can be fun and fight childhood obesity with positive, educational introduction to running.
"I am a runner and a cyclist and this helps get my kids involved," Roe said. "It shows them mommy runs for fun and it's fun. We are trying to help develop our community from the bottom up for a healthier lifestyle."
The races are divided into ages, pre-Kindergarten, 2 and 3-year-olds through middle school students, and distances, a 50-yard dash to 1 mile runs. Children that complete the series will receive medals and trophies based on total points of each race to the top boy and girl from each age group.
The next event in The Healthy Kids Running Series will be Sunday, March 25 at 4 p.m. and will continue until April 22 at 5 p.m.
