The radio controlled model airplane event gave club members a chance to enjoy the planes they built and give new comers a chance to earn their wings.
People at Lake Wichita Park were on cloud nine Saturday while getting to live out their childhood dreams.
“Flying to me is the best and so however you do it including remote control airplanes, it's a wonderful thing,” says Greg Steven, President WF Radio Control Club.
“Really couldn't get a pilots a license and afford a real airplane and this is a real close thing, it's fun to get up there and do the things with the planes, you have to do everything you would with a real airplane,” says Tony Breyen, VP of the WF Radio Control Club.
Living out their dreams was more than just fun as they were also raising money for a special cause, The Wounded Warrior Foundation.
“We have quite a few military folks here in Wichita Falls including myself, I’m a retired guy of course, we have a lot of folks have been in the military, we know what it costs, it's very important to give back in the end, especially to those that get hurt in the line of duty.,” says Stevens.
“It's how regular people can give to the ones that served and what they've given up for themselves, the lives that they gave up, the sacrifices their families made, it kinda gets you there,” says Breyen.
Sacrifices that can be made a little easier by the foundation.
“Building houses, anything that they can do, prosthetic, whatever the money is needed for,” says Breyen.
The weekend was a learning experience as people wanting to learn to fly the model planes could get lessons for free.
“This is something parents can do with their kids, with kids having so little to do and so many tragic things going on something like this is good for kids to just sink their teeth into,” says Breyen.
One Boy Scout Troup came out to earn their aviation badge and said even though the planes can be a little tricky to control it was great day.
”It was really fun,” says Ian Lopez.
Fun that honored those who secured the freedoms we enjoy each day.
