Former WFPD Officer Arrested for Manslaughter

A former Wichita Falls police officer is indicted on three counts of manslaughter in connection to a fatal accident last summer.
The district attorney's office was waiting for a crash report to be completed by Department of Public Safety officials before they could present a case to the Wichita County Grand Jury.
The report has a listed completion date of Feb. 16.
That's seven and a half months after the crash date.
Last July, more than one month after the accident, DPS called in their accident reconstruction team to recreate the accident.
Their findings are listed in the crash report.
It states video surveillance from nearby businesses shows Whitefield was traveling between 63 and 86 miles per hour about two blocks prior to the crash, which happened June 30 at Jacksboro Highway and 33rd St.
It killed 18-year-old Yeni Lopez, who was eight-months pregnant, and 13-year-old Gloria Montoya.
The crash report says Whitefield "took no evasive action when a reasonable person would have."
It also says that had Whitefield been traveling at the posted speed limit, which is 45 miles per hour, Lopez would have had "ample time to clear the intersection."
The report says toxicology results detected four different medications in Whitefield's system, including an allergy medicine, diet pills, and two different types of depression medication.
The police department found Whitefield did not tell his supervisor he was taking medication that could impact his ability to work.
The next step will be an arraignment, but no date has been set.
Wichita County Sheriff David Duke says the former Wichita Falls Police Officer Teddie Whitefield turned himself in to authorities this morning.
Whitefield was indicted on three counts of manslaughter. Each charge from the sealed indictment had a $25-thousand bond. Duke says Whitefield went to the Wichita County Jail around 9:30 this morning with his lawyer and a bondsman to turn himself in, and posted bail.
