Fort Sill Readies Facilities for Immigrants

Fort Sill continues to ready facilities and care of hundreds of immigrant children expected to begin arriving in the next several days. They are unaccompanied children apprehended by customs and border protection, most from Central American.

Between 600 and 1200 will temporarily be housed on the post in a vacant facility apart from the main post that has sleeping and bathing facilities.

Fort Sill officials say the post will house and care for the children for up to four months, or possibly longer until the children are reunited with their families or placed with sponsors.

The decision to use Fort Sill drew protest from Oklahoma 4th District Congressman Tom Cole who says he was never consulted or even given prior notice before the decision from the Obama Administration.
