Freight Train Hits Pickup Near Jolly

Two unidentified people somehow escaped injuries Wednesday afternoon when a freight train struck their pickup.

It happened around 3:45 p.m. off Highway 287, about two and a half miles south of Jolly.

According to DPS officials, the pickup was pulling out of a private drive and apparently did not check before crossing the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe tracks.

Luckily, the southbound train engine struck the pickup on the driver's side close to the front and spun it off the tracks, DPS said.

Both occupants were able to got out without serious injury.
