Dozens of golden retrievers are on their best behavior today as they compete in an event that's comparable to a beauty contest for the breed.
The Golden Retriever Club of America National Specialty is underway at the MPEC in downtown Wichita Falls.
Hundreds of non-champion dogs from all over the United States, as well as other countries, are prancing around the Kay Yeager Coliseum in hopes of being dubbed the top dog in their gender and age class.

"There's a written description of what the breed should look like, how it should behave, how big it should be, what color it should be.  Everything about the dog.   And the judges job is to evaluate which dog comes closest to being perfect, understanding that there is no such thing as a perfect dog," says Education Judge Jeff Pepper.

Class conformation judging will continue Friday with just one dog selected to compete with 183 champion dogs on Saturday for the coveted title of Best of Breed.
