High Speed Eyed as Cause of Fatal Accident in Lawton

Police say a woman is dead and a minor is severely injured after her vehicle was struck from behind. It happened at the intersection of Fort Sill Boulevard and North West Smith Avenue, Wednesday night just before nine.

Police say 27-year-old Brady Rashad, driving a Nissan Sentra, rear-ended a Nissan Murano, waiting at the traffic light. Police say they received several calls prior to the accident about a Nissan Sentra speeding.

The driver of the Murano, 42-year-old Helen Laurenzana, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old passenger was transported to the OU Medical Center for injuries, including a broken femur.

Police are still investigating to determine the exact speed Rashad was going. They also say alcohol may have played a factor in the accident.
