Historic Downtown Zales Building Construction is Making Progress

- The St Patrick's Day Street Festival in Downtown Wichita Falls is Saturday.

When you go, take a look at the progress they've made on the renovation of the first Zales store in the nation, at 8th and Ohio.

Part of the proceeds of the event benefit that project and other Downtown improvement efforts.

The first phase of construction is well underway on the historic 130 year old building where the Zales brothers opened their very first store in 1924.

They are now working on flooring, a fire sprinkler system and installation of air conditioning units.

Once it's finished, organizers hope to attract several new businesses.

Executive Director for Downtown Wichita Falls Development Cynthia Laney says, “Our plan for the building is to hopefully attract new business here we would love to see a restaurant, retail stores, something like that."

Neighboring downtown businesses say they are watching the progress with great interest and hoping it helps attract more traffic and people downtown.
