At least a dozen homes and several businesses are evacuated in Iowa Park on Thursday after a natural gas line is hit.

Iowa Park Police Chief Robert Johnson says a company doing fiber optic line work in the alley behind the 900 Block of Van Horn hit a four inch steel natural gas line

Johnson says the evacuation could last for up to four hours.

The Iowa Park Recreational Activity Center, or RAC, is open for those who need somewhere to go.

Randy West, manager of public affiars for Atmos Energy, says his crews are working to eliminate the leak.

West says once crews eliminate the leak, they will dig up and make repairs to the poly gas line.

At the moment, no word if any residents or businesses are out of service.
