Residents of Wichita Falls are coming together to help people in the town of West who were devastated last Wednesday by an explosion at a fertilizer plant.
The Wichita County 4H and Youth Development Extesion Agent collected and loaded up donations for residents in West, Texas. The fertilizer plant explosion killed 14 people, injured hundreds others, and reduced homes and buildings near the plant to rubble.
This morning, coordinators gathered supplies, including 100 pairs of military boots donated by Sheppard Air Force Base, blankets, toilet paper, and other items for residents in West. They say they plan to make another trip, but until it's set, here's how you can still help.
"For the time being we will continue taking monetary donations and gift cards until we know when we're going and who's gonna be driving and what kind of vehicles we can take," said Maranda Revell.
Before hitting the road to West, TX this morning, coordinators made several more stops to pick up donated items from local businesses.
Until their second trip is scheduled, you can make a monetary donation. Cash, checks or gift cards will be accepted weekdays from 8 to 5 at the Wichita County Extension Office. It's located in suite 200 of the courthouse annex. For more information, call 940-716-8610.
