Humane Society Teams Up with Local Businesses to Promote Pet Adoptions

This summer has been a busy one for the Humane Society of Wichita County officials and volunteers.

They say they are seeing lots of animals coming into the shelter which is why they are teaming up with local businesses in hopes of finding more families that want to adopt pets.

It's called the Restaurant Card Project and dogs like McLuvin at the Humane Society of Wichita County are fun, loyal four-legged friends in desperate need of a home.

Jan Herzog, a volunteer and board member for the animal shelter, says just like McLuvin, there are are dozens more cats and dogs waiting to be adopted.

"Everyone knows that we're working hard to get these animals seen," Herzog says. "They need to be seen out in the public and that will get more people out here and adopt them and that's what it's all about."

Herzog says with the help of businesses like Market Street, she is able to place cards out featuring pictures and descriptions of animals in need of homes.

She says many local businesses are teaming up with the Humane Society in an effort to promote the importance of pet adoption.

"Fuzzy's was the first place that we've had a lot cards and we were getting a lot of calls from Fuzzy's," Herzog says. "Everyone seems to want to do it. Not everybody can do because of corporate rules and regulations but certainly the ones that are doing it are really enthusiastic and seems like their customers and their employees enjoy it."

Herzog says since the program started three weeks ago, there have been lots of calls from Texomans wanting to learn more about animals they see on these cards.

She says, "Anything that is new and different. We're certainly open to trying it just to save more animals. We're very optimistic at this point. Just hope it keeps growing."

She says they will continue to look for more businesses who want to feature dogs like McLuvin in search of a forever home.
