It's the day when when families unite to celebrate Christmas and in Wilbarger County a Vernon couple gave a gift to their entire community.
And as Mechell Dixon reports they have done this for nearly three decades.
Twenty-seven years ago Pat and Glenna Bryant decided to prepare a holiday meal for those who had no where to go or spend Christmas with.
Today that meal has blossomed into a big tradition that many look forward to every year.
Two lines formed at Wilbarger Auditorium.
One was for the food volunteers cooked up and served up to hundreds of people.
The other was for little ones who wanted to meet Santa.
"As you know, I usually don't get to see the kids cause they're asleep in their beds, but to come here and see them awake, it's great," says Santa.
It was also great for kids since each and everyone got a toy from Santa.
For some adults the fun was found in serving food to others.
"All my family is out of town and we'll be celebrating Christmas this weekend so decided we'd volunteer and come up here and help Pat and Glenna Bryant. They do a lot for the community so we thought we'd do our part and help," says Paul Quintero, a volunteer server for the Vernon Christmas meal.
While others liked the fellowship.
"This is our first year her. What made you decide to come? Just to get out and see the community," says Michelle Villarrell.
For nearly 30 years the community has come out to enjoy this day, thanks to the generosity of Pat and Glenna Bryant.
"It gets harder every year, the older we get, but it's all worth it. The volunteers are just awesome. We have new ones every year," says Glenna Bryant.
"I think we've had a great number of people this year. We're really proud. We're running short on food but we've fed everybody," adds Pat Bryant.
Now, the Bryant's and volunteers get to rest a while before it is time to do it all over again next year.
The Bryant's say volunteers helped them cook and serve 882 meals today that were delivered to homes, eaten inside the Wilbarger Auditorium and carried home in containers.
