Hundreds of Homeless Get "Hope for the Holidays"

- More than a dozen area organizations gave hundreds of homeless people something to smile about this holiday season.

Local agencies teamed up for the Homeward Bound Homeless Coalition's eighth annual "Hope for the Holidays."

Area homeless could warm up with a cup of hot cocoa before loading up on other items to keep them warm through the winter.

Organizers say they served about 200 people last year but were expecting to exceed that number by at least 100 this year.

Brett Moyer, community relations manager for Community Healthcare Center, says, "It tends to be largely dependent on the weather. When folks are cold and hungry, and it's certainly been cold these last few weeks and is again today, we certainly expect that to bring people out in larger numbers so they can get that warm clothing for the winter."

Along with loading up on socks, boots, and coats, area homeless could also get caught up on immunizations and get help securing government documents like social security cards and birth certificates.
