Hurricane Isaac barreled onto the southern part of Louisiana on Tuesday evening and among the things in its path are oil rigs and petroleum facilities.
Isaac forced refineries and pipelines to shut down as a precaution so, with gas prices already on the rise again, this means they could go even higher with the Labor Day weekend approaching.
As a result, 33 million Americans set to travel this holiday weekend may feel the effects.
For drivers just like Gina Resendez, filling up at the pump can be a pain especially during a holiday weekend like Labor Day.
"We're staying here, keeping it simple..." Resendez says. "Gas makes it a little bit harder to get to see my family which is in Lubbock."
Resendez is one of many drivers laying low this weekend and with the climbing gas prices she says she only fills up when she has to.
"Lately its just been a little bit here and there when i can... I happen to be driving by, saw the cheap price and decide to fill up, get $20."
Despite Hurricane Isaac, AAA Texas Senior Public Affairs Specialist Doug Shupe says more than two million Texans are expected to hit the road this Labor Day weekend.
Shupe says, "It's the result of Texans' desire to travel."
"They want to spend this quality time, that one last summer trip, with their family before the kids buckle down and head back into their studies," Shupe exclaims.
He adds as long as refineries in the gulf are not damaged by Isaac and they can get things up and running soon, prices should drop.
"These prices should start going down after Labor Day once the summer driving season officially comes to an end and the refineries start transitioning from that more expensive summer fuel blends to the less expensive winter fuel blends," Shupe says
Texoma drivers have their own tips on saving money at the pump like drving the speed limit, staying home and not driving and keeping an eye out for good deals.
