Officers say David Everett Stevens offered a man $2000 to kill Matthew McCann, Stevens' wife's boyfriend.
McCann, who was also married at the time, says he and Stevens' then-wife started having an affair in Dec. 2010.
Stevens' wife eventually moved into McCann's house to live with him.
McCann says Stevens would often stop by the home and try to work things out with his wife, but was never violent.
Officers who say a man told them Stevens offered him money to kill McCann also testified.
They say they put tape recording wires on the alleged hired hit man and taped conversations he had with Stevens.
During those conversations, officers say Stevens told the hit man that he expected his wife to come back to him if McCann was dead because she doesn't like to be alone.
Officers say when they arrested Stevens, they found gasoline in his vehicle.
They allege Stevens was going to douse McCann's truck and perhaps set it on fire to get rid of the vehicle if the murder were to have occurred.
Another officer said the police department paid the alleged hit man $220 for divulging the murder plan to police.
Testimony continues tomorrow morning.
