An Iowa Park tradition is coming to an end with the retirement of the high school band's leaders.
Leaders, who helped the bands take sweepstakes awards for 30 consecutive years.
Ed Hefti and Greg Miller have led the Iowa Park High School Band for a combined total of 60 years.
In that time they've received 90 "one ratings" while competing in UIL marching, concert and sight reading competitions.
The pair says they've enjoyed sharing their love for music while teaching kids other lessons along the way.
"Teaching kids life lessons through music has become a passion. And I am a musician, I play still," said Hefti, the retiring assistant Band Director.
"Just the opportunity to help teach students, to help reach them and maybe guide them on their path," said Greg Miller, the retiring the Band Director.
And Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Folks are encouraged to honor their decades of leadership to students.
Their retirement party will be at First United Methodist Church at 201 E. Bank Street.
