Iowa Park School Renovations

Almost a year after a 14.7- million dollar bond issue passed in Iowa Park, major renovations to the high school and athletic complexes are well underway.

Tim Kingcade, Dir. of Mintenance, I.P. Schools: "That's one thing good or bad.  Iowa Park stands behind its Hawks."

When the Iowa Park Hawks were state champions, a state of the art football stadium was constructed at the new high school that was the envy of schools everywhere.
But, after 43- years of wear and tear,  Tim Kingcade says it was time for repairs and upgrades, and that's exactly what Iowa Park residents approved in last year's bond election.

"It's going to be completely, all new lighting, new press box, turf on the field.  New field house, weight room.  Everything's going to be brand new."

"We're going to have all new aluminum seating in.  Going to have hand rails going down the steps.  The steps, if you remember those were kind of far apart.  There's going to be a step between those.  Everything's going to be up to standards."

"New ticket booth will be here.  We'll have ramping going up to the seating.  The new concession stand will be down on the east side of the stadium.  We'll have a ticket booth for the visitor's side, to come in on the south side, and also have all the restrooms, concessions, everything, down on one central area."

"Baseball fields are going to be redone.  There's going to be new seating there, new fencing, new dugouts, new batting cages, baseball and softball.  So, they're going to have a concession stand down here for baseball and softball."

"And, this is going to be new tennis courts.  We're going to have 4- new tennis courts over here also."  "And, that will allow Iowa Park to host district tennis meets, right?"  "Tennis meets.  Right.  Correct."

And, after so many additions and renovations over 4- decades, Tim says  metal siding will be covering up much of the school, except over the original brick.
Tim says it's an exciting time for Iowa Park, and it's easy to see why.

Tim says about the only thing they don't think will be complete before the next school year is the new field house.
And, the baseball and softball fields will be complete before next season.
Also, Superintendent, Steve Moody says the auditorium inside the school is getting a major overhaul as well.
