It's a peaceful day at the Field's home.
Sitting outside on their porch, enjoying life; smiling and laughing.
But what brought them to their porch on this Wednesday morning isn't as peaceful.
"ya know you just never think it's going to happen to you," said Keli Fields, Jathan's wife.
Jathan Fields suffered a seizure back in May while he was driving.
"But yah I mean that's when things changed," he said.
"Nothing was the same after that," Keli said.
He had a lesion on his brain.
He later found out he had 3 brain tumors.
"So he woke up from the biopsy being paralyzed on his right side and couldn't be able to speak," she said.
Since then Jathan has been fighting back.
As a tri-athlete he says it's something he's used to
The pain, the struggle, the fight. "I will pull on that perseverance that you gotta have during a marathon training," he said.
He is now walking with the aid of a cane and a brace on his leg.
His speech is back but comes slowly.
And though not all the questions have been answered for Jathan and his family as he continues to get rounds of chemotherapy and radiation for the brain cancer they say they are thankful for a new perspective on life
"Things become just things and friends and family are what's important, and your time. Yah know you always, oh yah I got that, I can do it tomorrow, we'll your not so sure about tomorrow anymore," Keli said.
This Sunday friends of the fields will be rallying together to host a benefit for the family to help pay for their mounting medical bills.
It will be at the Elk's Lodge.
Doors will open at 4 p.m
Grilled pork loin, sausage and all the trimmings will be served for $12 per plate.
There will be a live and silent auction as well as a raffle.
