KFDX/TBI Blood Drive collects 22 units

WICHITA FALLS - From Chilicothe to Henrietta to Wichita Falls, local hospitals depend on the Texas blood Institute to keep a healthy supply on their shelves.

Thanks to some kind hearts at the KFDX blood drive, the TBI now has quite a few more units.

The goal was 15 units and the talented TBI staff collected 22.

Rena Shaffer reached a milestone mark in her blood donations.

"It makes me feel good," blood donor Rena Shaffer said.

And she says it's worth it, even if there is just a little pain involved....

Shaffer: "Michelle did a really good job today. I told her she gets one stick and she did perfect. It's worth while and it does good!

And that's why many donors climbed onto the Texas Blood Institute bloodmobile, folks like Phyllis Kline, who has been giving blood for the last decade!

"Makes you feel good and that is why I continue to do it," blood donor Phyllis Kline said.

Kline plans to continue donating as long as she's able.

Kline: "I hope so! I'm getting up there in years, so yeah, I enjoy doing it!

Many donors say it also gives them a good feeling knowing they helped someone who desperately needs blood, someone who calls Texoma home.

Shaffer: "You never know when someone is going to need blood!"

Which is why Shaffer says she always shows up when blood drives happen and she and Kline encourage others to also roll up their sleeves and do the same!

Thank you to all who gave.

If you weren't able to make it out to the KFDX drive, another one is coming up.

The Wichita County 4-H Council is working on a drive for this next weekend.

The drive will be held on Friday and Saturday at the J.S. Bridwell Ag barn, downtown by the MPEC.

It will be on Friday from 9-1 and then again on Saturday from 1-5.

Just look for the big TBI bloodmobile in the parking lot.

All donors will get a free long-sleeved t-shirt.

For more information on how to sign up for the 4-H drive, just call Amy Griffin at 936-245-3202 or Mary Spannagel at 580-512-3221.

You can also make an appointment at the TBI center on Gregory, by going to www.txbi.org.
