Sentencing is set for a Lawton man convicted of second degree murder in the death of his wife in 2014. A jury convicted 54 year old Herbert Dale Haynes yesterday to murder in the second degree and recommended life in prison.
Lawton police say they found him on January 22nd with blood on his hands and clothing exiting a motel room on northwest Cache Road. Police say others in the motel heard Haynes and his wife, 48 year old Irene Haynes, arguing inside their room.
After the argument, they say Irene made a phone call to have someone pick her up, but they didn't have a car. Later their daughter got a phone call from Herbert telling her that her mom was dead.
The Lawton Constitution reports Herbert Haynes has claimed he acted in self-defense. His sentencing is set for April 4th.
