Lawton Man Held Hostage For Five Hours

- Craig Tanner, a Lawton resident, says a man held him hostage in his own bedroom for over five hours last night.

Tanner says he had just met that man Saturday night as he had friends in from out of town.

He says after the man had an argument with his girlfriend he pulled a knife on tanner and told him not to move or he would be killed.

Tanner said the man pulled a knife and said don't move or I'll kill you.

Craig Tanner says he was held hostage for five hours Saturday night in his own bedroom at his home in 1500 block of Northwest Williams.

He says the threat on his life wasn't his biggest concern.

"I didn't want to die but I was prepared to if I had to. I have been pronounced legally dead twice in my life and I have cheated death many times, said Tanner.

"I was concerned about my little dog. I am all he's got and vice versa."

Tanner says he can't get around as he once could, so he arranged a code word with his neighbor in case of emergency.

They arranged to use the names of their deceased fathers on the phone if anything were to go wrong.
The neighbor notified authorities.
Tanner says police soon came to his door, which put his furry companion in the face danger.

"When I went in there to answer the door for the police, he said if you tell them anything or let them in. He grabbed the dog by the collar and said I will kill your little dog before they ever get back here."

The man did not harm Tanner's dog Scrufty, but broke a window and fled.

He was then confronted by officers outside.

They say after refusing repeated orders to put down his gun.

The man was shot in the chest by officers.

Lawton police say he's expected to make a full recovery.
