Lawton Police Investigate 13th Homicide of 2013

- The search for a missing person leads to the discovery of a body in the backyard of a Lawton home.

That body believed to be of a woman was found buried in the backyard of a home in the 1700 block of Northwest Irwin.

Lawton Police have not yet released the name of the victim but are investigating this incident as the city's 13th homicide of the year.

A relative of the victim wants some answers.

Elizabeth Marroquin, the victim's sister said, "My sister has been missing for two weeks and it's not like her. The last time I talked to her, they were in a heated fight."

Elizabeth Marroquin says her sister lives at 1717 Northwest Irwin in Lawton with her husband but has not been seen or heard from in a couple of weeks.

She says she filed a missing person's report with Lawton police in an effort to locate her.

"I know something's happen. I have a gut instinct," Marroquin said.

"Everybody's alarmed. It is not like her not to be seen. Not to be heard of. Nothing. We don't know nothing of her," she continued.

Earlier this week, Lawton Police arrived at the home in search of the missing person but the homeowner refused to let them in.

During the investigation, police were able to gather enough evidence to obtain a search warrant. Early Thursday morning, detectives found a body wrapped in a plastic bag buried in the back yard.

"The detective just came out here and they say from the looks of it, that it is my sister," said Marroquin

The body is being sent to the Oklahoma City Medical Examiner's Office and until that office can make a positive i.d., they won't release the name of the victim.

After the body was found, the homeowner, the alleged victim's husbandm, was arrested at a nearby motel in connection with the murder investigation.

Marroquin said, "We know that he is in jail and whatever I can do to make sure that he is in jail, I'm going to do it."

The suspect in this investigation is in the Lawton City Jail charged with murder, but police aren't releasing his name either until a positive i.d. is made by the medical examiner.
