Lewis' Motion for New Trial Denied

A man convicted in two different counties for sexually assaulting multiple girls is denied his motion for a new trial.
The motion was based on the denial of the defendant's request to have a new attorney after first telling the judge he wanted to represent himself.
Forty-one year-old Bobby Lewis was found guilty on May 2 for aggravated sexual assault and given two life sentences plus 20 years for indecency with a child.
That's in addition to an 80 year sentence he received last year in Clay County on the same charges.
Lewis appeared in the 30th District Court today, asking for another trial.
During his Wichita County trial in May, he decided to represent himself.
Documents show Judge Bob Brotherton warned Lewis of the complications with that decision, but Lewis maintained on serving as his own attorney.
Several days later during jury selection, he told Judge Brotherton he had changed his mind and wanted to hire a new attorney.
Judge Brotherton rejected Lewis' request, saying Lewis had already given up his right to counsel.
