A lifetime registered sex offender gets a lifetime prison sentence, with no chance of parole, for his latest sex crimes with a child.
59- year old Ronald Ray Chappell, was found guilty by a jury in Foard County last night after only 15- minutes deliberation.
The jurors then spent about the same amount of time deliberating his punishment of life in prison without parole.
Chappell was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a 13- year old girl during a church outing. He was charged with a second count of the same charge for another incident with the girl.
Authorities say the assaults came to light after two students in Crowell told their parents. The girl told them about being sexually assaulted during the church event.
The victim was then taken to Patsy's House in Wichita Falls for interviews. She said the assaults happened in January and May of last year.
Texas Ranger, Bo Brown interviewed Chappell last May and says Chappell first denied the girl's allegations.
He claimed the first assault with his finger was an accident that occurred while they were rough housing. and the second time he was asleep and woke up to find it there.
Because Chappell has prior offenses including sexual assaults of children, aggravated rape and fondling District Attorney Staley Heatly asked the jury for life without parole.
