Oklahoma utility crews continue repairing equipment today after lightning struck a high voltage power line pole caused several power line explosions and cut power to hundreds of customers.

It happened around eleven Saturday night just outside of Tipton but it also affected Public Service Oklahoma customers in Snyder and parts of Frederick.

According to a company spokesperson, the lightning struck a high voltage wire... Which then fell onto a lower voltage wire.

And the explosion of numerous power lines that customers reported seeing was the system "blowing."

Although that safety device put hundreds of customers in the dark Saturday night, PSO officials say the explosions actually a safety device to prevent damage to the system and customers homes.

Power to all affected customers was restored by Sunday afternoon.

PSO expects crews to have the power poles repaired by the end of the week.
