List of Texoma Counties Under Burn Ban Grows

The Texas map of counties that are under burn bans is turning redder and redder as the drought continues its grip over the state.
As the weeks go by since significant rain fell in most areas of the state, the map is beginning to look more and more like last summer, when almost all of the state was under burn bans.
Yesterday, Young County commissioners were the latest in Texoma to vote in a burn ban.
Foard county joined the list last Monday.
Archer and Jack counties have yet to enact burn bans.
Jack County is in better shape because of good rains earlier this summer.
Archer County Judge Gary Beesinger says he is waiting on latest drought and fire danger index numbers and will talk to county fire fighters before adding a possible burn ban to the commission agenda.
Yesterday, Wichita County commissioners enacted a 30 day burn ban, extending the seven day emergency ban enacted by County Judge Woody Gossom last week.
Besides the fire danger, the bans are also meant to conserve water which would be used to fight man-made fires.
