Altus Air Force Base leaders and rodeo team members led a herd of more than 30 longhorn cattle across the air base Thursday morning during the 16th annual cattle drive. Ironically, this is rare even south of the Red River.
Chris Kary, Great Plains Stampede Rodeo President says, "We are the only rodeo in this area. In Oklahoma or in the United states that does a longhorn cattle drive."
The cattle drive leads up to the 36th annual P-R-C-A Great Plains Stampede Rodeo which will be held Thursday night, Friday, and Saturday at 8 pm at the Great Plains Stampede Rodeo arena.
Tickets are just $10 at the gate.
The rodeo will feature events including bull riding, barrel racing, bareback and saddle bronco riding, tie-down calf roping and steer wrestling. If you wear pink on Saturday. Part of your proceeds will go to the local cancer center in Altus.
