Long's Attorney Insists She Had No Involvement in Shields' Murder

The attorney for a woman indicted for the murder of a 20-year-old Graham woman maintains his client's innocence.

Phillip Gregory, a lawyer in Fort Worth, is representing Lajuana Long, who's one of two people charged with murder in the death of Candice Shields.

Last month, we told you police allege they have a recorded interview with Long, in which she admits to playing a part in Shields' death.

"I am aware that there is an interview.  I am not aware of the circumstances in which the interview was taken," Gregory says.  "What I mean by circumstances is was the law followed in taking this interview; therefore, I don't know whether or not that interview is a viable interview and whether the statements that are being attributed to my client within the arrest affidavits are valid statements."

Gregory says there's a court hearing in Breckenridge tomorrow, and he hopes to learn more about the alleged evidence against his client during that hearing.

He says long is innocent until proven guilty, and at this point, he hasn't seen any evidence that would make him believe otherwise.
