Longtime theater director and mentor dies at 64

WICHITA FALLS - Voice of Lynn Marshall: "Sit back, relax and enjoy as the Wichita Theatre proudly presents the Texoma debut..."

So many remember Lynn Marshall, a man who touched so many lives.

Backdoor Theatre Artistic Director, Mike Sherry told us, "He was always a great person to have around, always a great mentor to have, always a good guy in the fact that he was always, always a joke. There was never a dull moment with that man."

A Lynn Marshall radio clip dated back to the late 70's where listeners would tune in to hear Marshall's voice on KNIN. He went on to join the KFDX family, where he graced tv screens and was known to give the folks at home a good laugh from time to time.

In his years at KFDX, starting in the early 80's, he reported and anchored newscasts and was even the head of promotions, but his real passion was theatre.

Sherry said, "I knew Lynn personally through a group of friends and we all just started doing theatre together, discussing theatre with one another and he became a very, very close friend and a great mentor."

Marshall worked with Sherry on many shows at Backdoor Theatre. He also volunteered countless hours on a stage just a few blocks away.

Wichita Theatre Director Dwayne Jackson met Marshall back in 1996 when he desperately needed a director for Beauty and the Beast, the two became friends quickly.

Jackson told us, "My wife just reminded us that it's kinda like losing the third, or in this case the first of the three musketeers."

He also said thanks to Marshall the shows would always go on.  "He was an incredible partner, no matter how tough things got on us here, when he had to make changes if we had to make a financial change or whatever, he just said hey we're okay."

That voice of calm is certainly one that will be sorely missed by the entire performing arts community.

Jackson finished by telling us, "I don't know if there's a possibility of filling the void that Lynn has left."

What there will be are many memories of the man who often took the stage and did even more for those he mentored behind the scenes.
