Majority of Burkburnett's New Well Field Up and Running

- In Burkburnett, officials say crews are progressing nicely at getting more than 20 new water wells up and running.

Earlier this year, crews broke ground and started drilling 25 new water wells on land off Ashton Road.

So far, City Manger Mike Whaley says 17 wells are finished. He says combined with the city's existing 68 wells, Burkburnett is getting about 700,000 gallons of water per day from its well fields. And, work continues to bring the final eight wells online line.

"We are pouring the concrete pads for the wells, as well as laying all the electrical components and the water collection system for the well field," Whaley says.

Whaley hopes to have the final wells finished and approved by the Texas Commission on Environmental
Quality by mid-July. He says then, Burk will have a total of 68 wells pumping which will help ease the amount of water the city purchases from Wichita Falls.
