Police say a Wichita Falls man spent the time, but not enough care, and that's why he's now behind bars.
Clerks say 37-year-old Jonathan Koons had come into the Zales store in Wichita Falls four to five times within a week looking at two diamond and sapphire rings valued at about $8200.
The last time he looked, the clerk says he walked out with the rings.
Police later received a Crime Stoppers tip that the rings had been sold to Tipton's Jewelry in Lawton.
Detectives went there and found the rings, with the Zales price tags still attached.
Also in the store, a photocopy of Koon's Texas identification card.
And clerks in both stores picked Koons out from a photo line up.
Koons is on parole until 2016 as a habitual criminal with a long record of thefts and burglaries.
